Dr. Maximilian Guth has been a lawyer since 2004 and Solicitor of England and Wales since 2007. He became a partner of Weiland Rechtsanwaelte in 2024 and previously worked for many years as a partner and head of the insurance practice group at another medium-sized law firm.

Dr. Guth has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating of contracts as well as litigation including arbitration.

In the area of insurance and maritime law, Dr. Guth regularly represents national and international insurers, P&I clubs, brokers, ship owners, cargo interests, suppliers, maritime service providers and shipyards. Dr. Guth holds a Master's degree in Maritime Law from the University of Southampton. He has an extensive network of specialists both in Germany and abroad, which he can call on for his clients if required.

In addition to insurance and commercial law with a maritime focus, the practice area also includes the agricultural sector. Dr. Guth has also completed a Bachelor of Engineering ("B.Eng.") in Agriculture and Agricultural management.

Dr. Guth has successfully completed the executor training course of the German Association for Inheritance Law and Property Succession e. V. (“DVEV“) and practices as an executor of wills.

In addition to regular publications and presentations in his areas of practice, Dr. Guth teaches as a lecturer at the University of Hamburg and is a member of various associations, such as the Association of International Maritime Law, the Association of Transport Insurers and the Farmers' Association. He is actively involved in the International Union of Marine Insurance ("IUMI") as a member of the Legal & Liability Committee. He is also co-editor of a German commentary on the German Insurance Contract Act (“VVG“) and has commented the Loss of Hire insurance for seagoing vessels in this commentary.
